December 2, 2021- On the second day of Advent, Thursday, the Local Government Unit of Magallanes hosted its Christmas Lighting Ceremony at the Magallanes Seaside Park and Children’s Playground in Brgy. Binisitahan Norte, Magallanes, Sorsogon.
Changing the usual tradition of a high-feet tall Christmas tree, it was planned to have scattered Christmas trees instead and even adopting the protocols of this time, they’re also in observance of social distancing fully dispersed around the park. The vibrant and creative displays were mostly new this year as an event to officially jumpstart the holiday season.
Celebrating this year’s Christmas with the theme “Paskong Magayagaya Maski may Pandemya”, the lighting of 50 Christmas trees and the Christmas tunnel was led by Mayor Augusto Manuel M. Ragragio. He was also joined by various department heads of the Municipal Government. The ceremony gained hundreds of visitors from all around the town who trooped to witness the lighting and those who joined the ceremony have also witnessed a spectacular fireworks display. Some even brought their whole family to enjoy the amazing view. After watching the fireworks display, Magallenos began taking pictures.
More than dazzling lights, the event was made meaningful by distributing goodies for children in connection with the culminating activity of the Children’s Month. This event lavishly celebrates the meaning of Christmas through new and classic displays alike. The lighting ceremony was not just an ordinary event being appreciated for its beauty and radiance but also for its symbolism of hope and optimism. That in spite of this pandemic, there is still a beacon of light ahead. It was intended to develop a plan to still foster a magical holiday atmosphere.
Moreover, these Christmas lights will not only light up our hearts but at the same time, it will serve as the lights of the people of Magallanes. That even as we celebrate, we must also remember those among us who are less fortunate. Many on this day are without hope, knowing that life is not easy, this pandemic is not easy and nothing is really easy.
The Christmas lights is owned by each and every Magalleno that everytime they see it, they should feel proud of their hometown. It should make their hearts warm, fill their beings with love and most of all inspire them to keep thriving in life by the good grace of God, who he himself is the reason for this season.
The night ended as everyone went home with much delight and exultant happiness. The light display will be open every night at 6 PM- 9 pm until the 2nd week of January 2022.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
