BRGY. LAPINIG
BRIEF HISTORY
Lapinig’s name has its share of legendary origin which most of the people in place considered it as unique historical jewels. It was said that Lapinig abounds with “MAPILIG”, a tree belonging to a hardwood species. This tree was sought by most of the people to be used as furniture, plows, constructing buildings and others. The constant reference to the place where Mapilig trees were abundant made the place to be called Mapilig which the later generation inadvertently changed to Lapinig.
In the early years of settlement, the center of this place had only a few scattered homes surrounded by forests. As people began to migrate in the place, the forests were cleared little by little and the clearings were planted with abaca, coconut tree and other crops.
Lapinig had its political leader called Tenyente del barrio, and the first Tenyente was Simion Albaytar in 1918.
